CAMPAIGN AND TRAVEL

Years ago in a small shop in England, I saw this fantastic table with a striking look and function. I asked its origins and was told simply, "It's Campaign." I have since developed a great appreciation for the beauty and function of the Campaign style.

Campaign furniture was designed to provide the comforts and luxuries of home, then be folded up, packed and carried on the march. During the expansion of the British Empire in the 18th and 19th centuries, high ranking British officers traveled with top quality portable furniture for their military tours.

Campaign furniture found a new appreciative audience when, in the early 1900s, the ability to travel flourished. Style and comfort were of great importance while seeking adventure and discovery in the wilds of Africa, India and the far reaches of the Orient. Today, a century later, vintage campaign and travel items offer a fantastic, timeless aesthetic.
